Kailyard Herbs, Dunoon
Turning our garden into a productive, wildlife-rich and beautiful kailyard - veg patch - that is full of herbs began in 2021. Drawing from Scotland’s herbal traditions, we’re growing a mix of plants with a long herbal history in Scotland, as well as using it as a test garden to see what other herbs thrive in our west-coast conditions. We’re experimenting with growing herbs for making herbal teas.
Lynne has also been delivering food and herb-growing workshops through local community projects and herbal tea-blending workshops.
Papaver Gardening, Cowal
Tending to veg patches and herbs through gardens in and around Dunoon through our gardening maintenance business, Papaver Gardening. Hillside, coastal, farmland and town-based gardens, we’re learning about the differing microclimates, challenges and opportunities for growing around our west-coast peninsula.
Southside, Glasgow
Bags of rosemary gifted to a local baker. Growing and drying herbs. Studying Horticulture at college. Studying Herbology at RBGE. Making remedies. Lots of cooking with herbs. Designing our first herb garden.
Before our move to Cowal, our first herb garden and the initial idea for Kailyard Herbs began in our small garden in Glasgow. We turned a lawn and patio areas into a wildlife-friendly kitchen garden, packed with herbs. Growing plants from seeds and cuttings, we made raised beds out of reclaimed wood or bricks, and planted directly into the soil where possible.
